The law student Romain Guiberteau took over the family’s vineyard in 1996 after it has been leased out for 20 years. The following year, legendary Nady Foucault helped him to produce a few bottles which sold easily. This success convinced him to pursue a winemaking career and to get his grapes back from the cooperative over time. The 12 hectares vineyard is a wonderland. Indeed Romain owns some of the best lands (7 hectares) on the hill of Brézé – a magical terroir for Chenin Blanc.
Vines are farmed organically since 2000 and certified since 2007.
The fermentation is natural with indigenous yeasts. The reds are 100% destemmed and the wines are aged in either concrete tanks or oak barrel although new oak is banned except for 2 cuvées. The wines are not fined and filtered only when necessary.
“The wines are incredibly refined, pure and elegant. They all show great texture”
